Many safes are tested and rated in accordance with pan European standard; EN1143-1. Safes that have been successfully tested are given a rating, from Grade 0 to Grade VI according to their strength. The table of suggested maximum overnight cash limits for tested and graded safes is as follows:

Grade I - up to £10,000 |
Grade II - up to £17,500 |
| Grade III - up to £35,000 |
Grade IV - up to £60,000 |
Grade V - up to £100,000 |
Grade VI - £150,00+ |
These limits are frequently multiplied by a factor of up to 10 times for jewellery risks in domestic premises, however all limits are recommendations only, and insurers may give more or less indemnity depending upon a number of variables. |
